117: Jealousy

Your Secret Is Safe With Me with Dr. Marie Murphy | Is Monogamy (Un)Natural?

Jealousy occurs within the context of any relationship. However, when you’re shifting from an affair into a non-affair relationship, it’s a particularly common issue. It’s an emotion that many people don’t like to feel, and the advice out there about dealing with jealousy, especially around infidelity, leave a lot to be desired and can actually make jealousy harder to handle.

However, Dr. Marie Murphy’s perspective is that it is most appropriate and helpful to regard jealousy as an emotion, a sensation in your body generated by your thoughts. So, your partner talking to some attractive person at a party doesn’t make you jealous. Your thoughts about this situation are what create jealousy.

Tune in this week because Dr. Marie Murphy is sharing how jealousy shows up in a relationship that has transitioned from an affair into a non-affair relationship. You’ll learn the thoughts that lead people to believe their partner definitely will cheat on them, and why you get to choose how you approach the idea of your partner cheating, whether you want to accept it and enjoy the relationship anyway, or choose something else.
